Science In The News: Bringing global and local scientific discussions into the classroom
Science in the news is an almost-daily exercise within science courses at Craftsbury Academy designed to increase student awareness of authentic scientific problems and research, as well as helping develop scientific literacy, comprehension, and vocabulary in all students. This practice was sparked by my own 8th grade history teacher, who always started his classes with a student-led current forum.
Science In The News might occur in several different 'flavors' with different objectives.

Science In The News might occur in several different 'flavors' with different objectives.
- Simple 2-minute presentation with facts and visuals.
- A short student discussion or debate about the examined scientific paper/article.
- A longer learning experience where students read and analyze the actual article.
- Students are responsible with finding and presenting an article related to ongoing classroom learning or investigations.
